Switzerland. Canton Valais. Hèrens valley. Chemeuille. 1800 meters high. The Herens cattle is well known for the high aggression potential of its females. In spring, cows and heifers are made to fight one against another in the local tradition of "cow fighting". The Herens Cattle is one of the smallest cattle breeds. Their fur is dark red to brown or black. A distinguishing feature is the short and broad head, with a concave front line. The animals are very muscular, with sporting strong horns. Season spent by the cows in mountain pastures. Swiss alpine farmers. Alps mountains peasants. Swiss flag. Catholic Holy Cross. © 1994 Didier Ruef
