Khat is a flowering plant native to tropical East Africa and contains the alkaloid cathinone, an amphetamine-like stimulant which causes excitement and euphoria. Khat is one of the few commodities that is traded daily and serves as a type of speed when chewed, Djiboutian men usualy chew in the afternoon hours.
