Egypt. Red Sea Governorate. Hurghada. City Center. Stray dogs at Martyr’s Square. The statue commemorates the Battle of Shedwan (35 km from Hurghada), a confrontation that took place in Shedwan Island in January 1970 between a company of Egyptian Sa'ka Forces (armed forces) and a battalion of Israeli soldiers. The battle is described as heroic and immortal for the Egyptian soldiers which led to the Israeli withdraw from the island. The statue located in the middle of the square is inscribed on a large marble plaque. Below it are the names of the Egyptian martyrs and on top is place the Egyptian flag. In the background, the mosque El Mina Al Kabeer, also called Masjid Al-Mina Al-Kabir, which is a significant tourist attraction with its magnificent architecture and minarets. 2.05.2024 © 2024 Didier Ruef
