Eritrea. Southern Debud Zone. Adi Nefas. Small village in the country. The village was occupied by ethiopian troops and heavily destroyed during the war between Eritrea and Ethiopia on the border dispute(1999 to 2001). The Swiss Red Cross (SRC) has given a grant (as part of a consortium of Swiss Non-Governmental Organisations NGO) for houses reconstruction and a rehabilitation on social services in the village and in the Areza Subzone. Meskel is the most important religious feast for the orthodox church in Eritrea. It takes place every year on september 27. A day before, an old man is already dressed in white cotton loinclothes and wear a barley crown on his forehead as a symbolical preparation for Meskel's feast.© 2002 Didier Ruef
