Ethiopia. Southern Nations, Nationalities, and Peoples' Region. Omo Valley. Hayzo Village. High altitude: 2800 meters. Dorze tribe. The Dorze are a small ethnic group inhabiting the Gamo Gofa Zone who speak the Dorze language, an Omotic tongue. The Dorze are predominantly agriculturalists living in permanent villages. Well known cotton weavers, the Dorze tribe were once warriors. Traditional welcome celebration for incoming visitors. Marc Vella (L) and Alain Devaud (R) are dressed with cheetah furs and colorful cotton hats. They both hold a spear in their hands and a shield. Marc Vella is a french musician and a nomadic pianist. Over the last 25 years he has travelled with his Grand Piano in around forty countries to celebrate humanity. Creator of “La Caravane amoureuse” (The Caravan of Love) he takes people with him to say “I love you” to others and “lovingly conquered” their hearts and souls. The cheetah (Acinonyx jubatus) is a big cat in the subfamily Felinae that inhabits most of Africa. The Dorze numbered 40'000 reside in villages near the cities of Chencha and Arba Minch.
