The old man is a sanyasi wearing saffron clothes and giving his blessing to pilgrims. In Hinduism, the sanyasis or renunciates have left behind all material attachments. They are renouncers who have chosen to live a life apart from or on the edges of society in order to focus on their own spiritual practice. A man plays the Ramsinga which is an ancient musical instrument from India. It is basically a natural trumpet consisting of four pipes of very thin metal which fit one within the other. The Maha (great) Kumbh Mela, which comes after 12 Purna Kumbh Mela, or 144 years, is always held at Allahabad.
