Italy. Apulia Region. Contrada Galante is a village, distant 15 km from the town of Ceglie Messapica, located in Apulia (Puglia) in Southern Italy. Small farmhouse. A farmer holds rotten olives in the palm of his right hand. The olive harvest in 2018 in Apulia was disastrous due to bad weather, heavy rains and temperature's drop just before harvest time. In Salient area, olives trees suffer also from attacks of Xylella fastidiosa, an aerobic, Gram-negative bacterium of the monophyletic genus Xylella, which causes the olive quick decline syndrome. 6.12.18 © 2018 Didier Ruef
