Morocco. Safi. Old protective walls surround the old town. Three moslem women walk together on the main square in the city center. One is a mother carrying her son on her back. All three muslim women wear colourful abayas and a hijab on their heads. Two wear caps (Adidas and Nike) under their hijabs. The abaya is an over layer worn on top of other clothes to hide the lady’s figures when she’s out and about in public. A long and loose item that is rather similar to a cloak, it covers the entire body save for the head, feet, and hands. The hijab generally refers to various head coverings conventionally worn by many Muslim women. Whilst a hijab can come in many forms, it often specifically refers to a scarf wrapped around the head, covering the hair, neck and ears but leaving the face visible.
