Senegal. Saint-Louis. Old town located on N'Dar island. The Iman Cheik Tidiane Diallo holds a wooden stick in his left hand while walking with notables and political authorities towards the mosque on Tabaski holiday, the Muslim festival of Eid-al-Adha (commonly translated as the Feast of Sacrifice) or Eid el-Kebir. It is the most important Muslim festival and is called Tabaski in West African countries. The Eid prayer is performed on the morning of Eid al-Adha, after which udhiyah, or the ritual sacrifice of sheep, may be performed. In Islamic tradition, it honours the willingness of Abraham to sacrifice his son as an act of obedience to God's command. The boubou is a flowing wide-sleeved robe worn across West Africa. Saint Louis, or Saint-Louis, is the capital of Senegal's Saint-Louis Region. 17.06.2024 © 2024 Didier Ruef
