The Menorquín is a breed of horse indigenous to the island and is closely associated with the doma menorquina style of riding. The riders and their horses parade through the streets, and these magnificent and remarkably calm horses rear up on their hind-legs to the delight of the crowd. Some 150 riders participate in the festival in Mahón. Riders pass through the crowds, executing caracoles and repeatedly performing the bot. Maó (in Catalan) and Mahón (in Spanish), written in English as Mahon, is a municipality, the capital city of the island of Menorca, and seat of the Island Council of Menorca. The city is located on the eastern coast of the island, which is part of the autonomous community of the Balearic.
