Switzerland. Canton Schwyz. Einsiedeln Abbey. African pilgrimage. Various religious african communities coming from allover Switzerland and southern Germany celebrate their faith and belief in Jesus Christ. A black man wears a shirt with drawing of "Our Lady of Fátima " a title for the Virgin Mary due to her reputed apparitions to three shepherd children at Fátima, Portugal in 1917. The title of Our Lady of the Rosary is also sometimes used to refer to the same apparition. According to religious tradition, Mary was an Israelite Jewish woman and the mother of Jesus. Among her many other names and titles are the Virgin Mary or Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God, and Saint Mary in Western churches, Theotokos in Orthodox Christianity, and Maryam, mother of Isa in Islam. Einsiedeln Abbey is a Benedictine monastery in the town of Einsiedeln. The abbey is dedicated to Our Lady of the Hermits, the title being derived from the circumstances of its foundation, for the first inhabitant of the region was Saint Meinrad, a hermit. It is a territorial abbey and, therefore, not part of a diocese, subject to a bishop. It has been a major resting point on the Way of St. James for centuries. 31.08.13 © 2013 Didier Ruef
