Switzerland. Canton Schwyz. The Town Hall (Das Rathaus) is the most famous building in the city of Schwyz. Built in the 17th century, the mural paintings date from the 19th century and were done to celebrate the 600 years of Swiss Confederation. Its richly frescoed exterior (1891) celebrate the Battle of Morgan , the 1315 conflict in which the Swis defeated the Austrian army. The paintings glorify age-old Swiss heroes in their fight for independence and freedom. A soldier with a shield and a club. A man stands up with both arms affixed to the bars of a large window during the celebration for the 700 years of Swiss Confederation. A club (also known as a cudgel, baton, truncheon, cosh, nightstick, or bludgeon) is among the simplest of all weapons: a short staff or stick, usually made of wood, wielded as a weapon. 1.08.1991 © 1991 Didier Ruef
