Switzerland. Canton Ticino. Melide. Two Swissair planes on the tarmac of the Swissminiatur attraction park. Swissair was the former national airline of Switzerland. For most of its 71 years, Swissair was one of the major international airlines and was regarded as a Swiss national symbol and icon. The airline was declared bankrupt on March 31 2002. The Swiss Miniature, which was opened in 1959, is the only miniature park in Switzerland. Swissminiature is Switzerland on a smaller scale. There are 120 models of houses, castles and monuments in the open air, distributed throughout the 14,000 square meter park. The models have been recreated authentically - with great attention to detail - and are surrounded by thousands of plants and flowers. © 1994 Didier Ruef
