Switzerland. Geneva. Paquis neighborhood. A police officer talks to a man suspected of domestic violence aginst his wife. Drawings from Albert Samuel Anker on the wall. Albert Samuel Anker (1831-1910) was a Swiss painter and illustrator who has been called the "national painter" of Switzerland because of his enduringly popular depictions of 19th-century Swiss village life. Domestic violence, also known as domestic abuse, spousal abuse, battering, family violence, and intimate partner violence (IPV), is defined as a pattern of abusive behaviors by one partner against another in an intimate relationship such as marriage. Domestic violence, so defined, has many forms, including physical aggression or assault. 29.06.12 © 2012 Didier Ruef
