Switzerland. Geneva. A group of recruits ( policemen and policewomen) from the police academy march on the day in which they will be all sworn in as police officers. They wear uniforms, white gloves, tricorns on the heads and carry old rifles with bayonet on the shoulders. The tricorne or tricorn is a style of hat that was popular during the 18th century, falling out of style by 1800. The tricorne was worn as part of military uniforms. A bayonet (from French ba«onnette) is a knife, sword, or spike-shaped weapon designed to fit in, on, over or underneath the muzzle of a rifle, effectively turning the gun into a spear.
