Switzerland. Canton Ticino. Lugano. Easter in Cattedrale di San Lorenzo. The bishop Valerio Lazzeri celebrates the Sunday mass in an empty cathedral. The believers could not attend the religious service due to the coronavirus. A cameraman from the RSI is filming the service and it can be looked at on streaming on internet. Radiotelevisione svizzera di lingua italiana (RSI) is a Swiss public broadcasting organisation, part of SRG SSR.Valerio Lazzeri (born 22 July 1963) is a Swiss Roman Catholic bishop. Ordained to the priesthood on 2 September 1989, Lazzeri was named bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Lugano, Switzerland on 4 November 2013. Easter, also called Pascha or Resurrection Sunday, is a festival and holiday commemorating the resurrection of Jesus from the dead, described in the New Testament as having occurred on the third day after his burial following his crucifixion by the Romans. The Diocese of Lugano is a branch of the Catholic Church immediately subject to the Holy See. Due to the spread of the coronavirus (also called Covid-19), the Federal Council has categorised the situation in the country as “extraordinary”. It has issued a recommendation to all citizens to stay at home, especially the sick and the elderly. From March 16 the government ramped up its response to the widening pandemic, ordering the closure of religious services. 12.04.2020 © 2020 Didier Ruef
