Switzerland. Canton Ticino. Sorengo. A senior woman is lying down on her bed in a nursing home. The elderly woman is suffering from multiple sclerosis and respiratory problems. She needs to be brought to hospital for  medical examinations. The bearded paramedic wears a blue uniform and medical gloves. He works for the Croce Verde Lugano. The man is a volunteer specifically trained in emergency rescue. A monitor is on the bed by the patient and controls a set of vital functions, such as  electrocardiogram, blood pressure’s measurement, respiratory rate and pulse oximetry (oxygen saturation). On the woman's arm, an intravenous infusion with saline solution.The Croce Verde Lugano is a private organization which ensure health safety by addressing different emergencies services and rescue services. Volunteering is generally considered an altruistic activity where an individual provides services for no financial or social gain to benefit another person, group or organization. Volunteering is also renowned for skill development and is often intended to promote goodness or to improve human quality of life. Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a demyelinating disease in which the insulating covers of nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord are damaged.
