The independence war lasted 30 years. Eritrea was finally free from Ethiopia in 1993. A new state was born. But a new war on a border dispute started between both countries in 1998. It ended in 2001 and a cease-fire aggreement was signed in april 2002. This essay documents the daily life of Eritrea after the war. Tsorona, a small southern town, was heavily destroyed by the war. The town is located in the Temporary Security Zone (TSZ), created after the signature of the cease fire between both countries. A batallion from the Rajput Regiment of India is based in the town. Its mission is to patrol daily the border to make sure that the peaceful agreement is well respected. The TSZ follows on both sides the border between Eritrea and Ethiopia. Maiado, a small village in the countryside, has improved its life quality because of a small credit programme from A.C.O.R.D. (Agency for Cooperation and Research in Development ), an international ngo working mostly in Africa. It receives funds from Heks (Inter Church Aid) of Switzerland. The small credit has given a chance to the people to start and developp varions small businesses. The programm has also created a village bank owned and ran by the members of the small credit project. Maiwuray is 20 km distant from the border. People and families live there in tents, because they are IDP (Internaly Displaced people) of the war between Eritrea and Ethiopia. Adi Nefas is a small village in the countryside. The village was occupied by ethiopian troops and heavily destroyed during the last war. The Swiss Red Cross (SRC) has given a grant (as part of a consortium of Swiss ngos) for houses reconstruction and a rehabilitation on social services in the village and in the Areza Subzone. Meskel is the most important religious feast for the orthodox church in Eritrea. It takes place every year on september 27. On September square in Asmara, the crowd celebrates the holy day with intensity and passion.
