Thailand. Bangkok. Oldest shophouses in Tha Tian, built at the end of the XIX century. According to the development master plan of the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA), only shophouses built around the years 1888-1900 (about 61 units) will be restored and reused for tourist service or retailing while other buildings (more than 400 units in Tha Tian) will be demolished. But due to the resistance and the citizen participation in the decision-making process for the conservation of historic communities, such as Tha Tian, the renovation and the plan has not been yet completed. Tha Tian is a community located in the downtown area and in the center of the urban historic district, called Koh Rattanakosin. 02.04.09 © 2009 Didier Ruef
