Eritrea. Southern Debud Zone. On the road to Tsorona. The small town was occupied by ethiopian troops and heavily destroyed during the war between Eritrea and Ethiopia on the border dispute (1999 to 2001). Ethiopian trenches on the front line, which was just was 10 km away from Tsorona. The zone was a real trench warfare. The entirea area (hills and fields) is still heavily mined and extremely dangerous for the life of men and animals. The stones painted in red and white mean that the area is unsafe. © 2002 Didier Ruef
