Armenia. Syunik Province. Sisian. Overall view. Graveyard on hill top. On april 2016, a group of men, all belonging to "Volunteers Union of Country Defenders" of Sisian region, left the town for the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic. Nine of them were hit and killed on April 4th 2016 in a kamikaze drone attack by an Azerbaijani military drone IAI Harop in the village of Talish, located in the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic. The IAI Harop is a loitering munition developed by the MBT division of Israel Aerospace Industries. The unmanned combat aerial vehicle is also known as the Harpy-2 loitering munitions missile. It is an anti-radiation drone that can autonomously home in on radio emissions. Rather than holding a separate high-explosive warhead, the drone itself is the main munition. This SEAD-optimised loitering munition is designed to loiter the battlefield and attack targets by self-destructing into them. The drone can either operate fully autonomously, using its anti-radar homing system, or it can take a human-in-the-loop mode. If a target is not engaged, the drone will return and land itself back at base. Talish is a village in the Martakert Region of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (de facto), and the Tartar Rayon of Azerbaijan (de jure). It has been under Armenian control since the 1994 ceasefire. Sisian is a town and the centre of the urban community of Sisian, in Syunik Province at the south of Armenia. 3.10.2019 © 2019 Didier Ruef
