Switzerland. Basel. St. Jakobshalle. A crowd of men and women, all tibetan, celebrate the visit of His Holiness the Dalai Lama. They sing and danse together outside in the cold winter afternon. The 14th and current Dalai Lama is Tenzin Gyatso, recognized since 1950. He is the current Dalai Lama, as well as the longest-lived incumbent, well known for his lifelong advocacy for Tibetans inside and outside Tibet. Dalai Lamas are amongst the head monks of the Gelug school, the newest of the schools of Tibetan Buddhism. The Dalai Lama, also called " Ocean of Wisdom" is considered as the incarnation of Chenresi, the Bodhisattva of compassion who is also the protective deity of Tibet. The Tibetan flag, also known as the "snow lion flag" and the 'Free Tibet flag', was a flag of the military of Tibet, introduced by the 13th Dalai Lama in 1912 and used for the same capacity until 1959. Designed with the help of a Japanese priest, it reflects the design motif of the Japanese military's Rising Sun Flag. Since the 1960s, it is used a symbol of the Tibetan independence movement. 7.02.2015 © 2015 Didier Ruef
