Switzerland. Canton Valais. On the road to the Great St. Bernard Pass. A group of men from the " Voltigeurs du 3eme régiment suisse", all dressed with historic traditional soldiers outfits and muskets during a historical reenactment based on the crossing of the Great St. Bernard Pass on May 13, 1800 by Napoleon Bonaparte and his army on their way to attack the Austrian army in Italy. An elderly man enjoys a short nap while a tourist rides his mountain bike. A musket is a muzzle-loaded, smoothbore long gun, fired from the shoulder. Muskets were designed for use by infantry. A soldier armed with a musket had the designation musketman or musketeer. Great St. Bernard Pass (French: Col du Grand St-Bernard, Italian: Colle del Gran San Bernardo, German: Grosser Sankt Bernhard; 2,469 m (8,100 ft)) is the third highest road pass in Switzerland.
