Ethiopia. Southern Nations, Nationalities, and Peoples' Region. Omo Valley. Korcho Village. Kara tribe. Agro-pastoralist group. The Kara women are best known for the elaborate body painting they indulge in before important ceremonies. They paint their faces and bodies in white chalk. Scarification plays an important role in Kara body decoration. The Omo Valley, situated in Africa’s Great Rift Valley, is home to an estimated 200,000 indigenous peoples who have lived there for millennia. Amongst them are 1,000 to 2,000 Karo who dwell on the eastern banks of the Omo river. Southern Nations, Nationalities, and Peoples' Region (often abbreviated as SNNPR) is one of the nine ethnic divisions of Ethiopia. 8.11.15 © 2015 Didier Ruef
