Germany. North Rhine-Westphalia state. Cologne Zoological Garden. Being the third oldest zoo in Germany, it features over 10,000 animals of more than 850 species on more than 20 hectares. The veterinary team ( two women) and a caregiver (man) check that one of the sea lions does not have an oral infection. They smell tissue being removed from the animal's mouth. An eared seal, otariid, or otary is any member of the marine mammal family Otariidae, one of three groupings of pinnipeds. They comprise 15 extant species in seven genera and are commonly known either as sea lions or fur seals. Otariids are adapted to a semiaquatic lifestyle, feeding and migrating in the water, but breeding and resting on land or ice. 24.01.24 © 2024 Didier Ruef
