Switzerland. Geneva. The roofing company « Cerutti Toitures SA » is in charge of the complete revival restoration of the roof and all onion domes of the Russian Orthodox church: The church (full name: Cathédrale de l'Exaltation de la Sainte Croix) is designed in a Byzantine Moscovite style and topped with golden onion domes. A firm’s carpenter has already taken apart an old golden bulb in order to measure the worn out wooden frames he would need to replace by new ones. The wooden part has been signed on July 28, 1911 by several workers who worked as carpenters and roofers on the bulb's previous renovation. An onion dome is a dome whose shape resembles an onion. Such domes are often larger in diameter than the drum upon which they sit, and their height usually exceeds their width. These bulbous structures taper smoothly to a point. 31.03.2016 © 2016 Didier Ruef
