Germany. Bayern state. The Dachau Concentration Camp Memorial Site. A young american boy, wearing a t-shirt of the music band "The Grateful Dead", stands in front of one the four ovens in the crematorium, the barrack X. .Still preserved today are the first crematorium built in 1940 and the so-called barrack X, built in 1942/43. The crematorium was used to dispose of the corpses from the concentration camp; the ovens were mostly in operation around the clock. On march 22, 1933, the first concentration camp was opened in Dachau by the Nazis. It became a model for all later concentration camps established under the control of the SS men and the Third Reich. © 2007 Didier Ruef
