Switzerland. Geneva. Two police officers (a policewoman and a policeman) holding flahlights in their hands search the rooms of a derelict building in search of squatters, usually illegal migrants. The policeman opens the door with a front kick and finds an arab man from the Maghreb area sleeping on a mattress on the floor. Squatting consists of occupying an abandoned or unoccupied area of a building - usually residential - that the squatter does not own, rent or otherwise have lawful permission to use. Both police officers are wearing a ballistic vest, bulletproof vest or bullet-resistant vest which is an item of personal armor that helps absorb the impact from knives, firearm-fired projectiles and shrapnel from explosions, and is worn on the torso. Soft vests are made from many layers of woven or laminated fibers and can be capable of protecting the wearer from small-caliber handgun and shotgun projectiles, and small fragments from explosives such as hand grenades. 10.05.12 © 2012 Didier Ruef..
