Switzerland. Canton Valais. Ulrichen. An elderly couple seats on a bench near a wooden chalet. Over the years, they have been collecting various garden gnomes. Garden gnomes (German: Gartenzwerge, lit. 'garden dwarfs') are lawn ornament figurines of small humanoid creatures known as gnomes. Traditionally, the figurines depict male dwarfs wearing red pointy hats. Typically, gnomes stand between 30 and 60 cm. Garden gnomes are now prevalent in gardens and lawns throughout the western world, among all social classes, and often regarded as kitsch. Ulrichen is a village in the municipality of Obergoms in the district of Goms.15.08.2020 © 2020 Didier Ruef
