Switzerland. Canton Ticino. Morcote. A senior man lying down on an emergency medical stretcher is brought by ambulance to hospital for medical examination. The elderly man is suffering from deep vein thrombosis (DVT), which is a blood clot in the deep veins of the leg. The paramedic wears a blue uniforms and works for the Croce Verde Lugano. The woman is a volunteer specifically trained in emergency rescue. The volunteer looks at a monitor which controls a set of vital functions, such as  electrocardiogram, blood pressure’s measurement, respiratory rate and pulse oximetry (oxygen saturation). The Croce Verde Lugano is a private organization which ensure health safety by addressing different emergencies services and rescue services. Volunteering is generally considered an altruistic activity where an individual provides services for no financial or social gain to benefit another person, group or organization.
