Spain. Balearic Islands. Minorca (Menorca). Fornells. Iglesia San Antonio Abad ( Church Anthony the Abbot ). Built in the mid-seventeenth century, the church is a spiritual space. It stands out, in the square where it is located, for its white colour. It receives its name from Saint Anthony or Antony who was a Christian monk revered since his death as a saint. He is distinguished by various epithets of his own: Anthony the Great, Anthony of Egypt, Antony the Abbot, Anthony of the Desert, Anthony the Anchorite, and Anthony of Thebes. For his importance among the Desert Fathers and to all later Christian monasticism, he is also known as the Father of All Monks. The church is of a simple construction with a single nave with three small chapels on each side. Tourists walk on the square at midday. Fornells is part of the autonomous community of the Balearic. In Spain, an autonomous community is a first-level political and administrative division, created in accordance with the Spanish constitution of 1978, with the aim of guaranteeing limited autonomy of the nationalities and regions that make up Spain. 12.09.2019 © 2019 Didier Ruef
