The Dorze are a small ethnic group inhabiting the Gamo Gofa Zone who speak the Dorze language, an Omotic tongue. The Dorze are predominantly agriculturalists living in permanent villages. A young girl with a coffee pot, her sister and a dog in the compound and hut among ensete trees. A Dorze hut is made up of hard wood poles, woven bamboo, enset and other natural materials. It can stand two stories tall and last up to 80 years. Ensete ventricosum, commonly known as the Ethiopian banana, Abyssinian banana, false banana, or ensete, is an herbaceous species of flowering plant in the genus Ensete of the banana family Musaceae. The Dorze numbered 40'000 reside in villages near the cities of Chencha and Arba Minch.
