The courses, whose organisation is delegated by the Federal Department of Defence, Civil Protection and Sport to the various local shooting societies, are open to young swiss people, boys and girls, from 15 to 20 years old. Girls and boys learn how to handle and fire with the assault rifle SG 550, also called Fass 90, used by the Swiss Army. On a table, the 5.6 mm Swiss ammunition, also called CP90, which will be used by a young shooter. The SG 550 is an assault rifle manufactured by Swiss Arms AG (formerly Schweizerische Industrie Gesellschaft) of Neuhausen, Switzerland. "SG" is an abbreviation for Sturmgewehr, or "assault rifle".
