Switzerland. Canton Graubünden. Davos. Two waiters serve a group of tourists and guest enjoying a drink on the terraces of Berghotel Schatzalp. The Schatzalp with the hotel of the same name, situated at 1861 meters on a south-facing terrace above Davos. The Berghotel Schatzalp, built in art nouveau style as a sanatorium, was built between 1898 and 1900 by Lucius Spengler and Edward Neumann. It is mentioned several times in Thomas Mann's novel "The Magic Mountain". Thomas Mann (1875–1955) came to Davos from 12 May to 15 June 1912 to visit his wife Katia, who was being treated at the sanatorium. During this time he took many walks around the area above the sanatorium. Thomas Mann incorporated his impressions of Davos in his novel “The Magic Mountain”, which was published in 1924. 13.09.2020 © 2020 Didier Ruef
