Ukraine. Province of Kiev. Slavutich. A grandmother and her grandson with a sledge walks on a snowy path near the memorial monument for the dead workers of the Chernobyl accident. The town of Slavutich was created after the catastrophe which took place on April 1986 at 1.23 am with the explosion of reactor No 4 at Chernobyl atomic power station. Slavutich is distant 60 km from the power station and was newly built after the evacuation of the inhabitants from both towns of Pripyat and Chernobyl. © 2006 Didier Ruef
