Switzerland. Canton Ticino. Bellinzona. The Grand Council of Ticino (Italian: Gran Consiglio di Ticino) is the legislature for the Swiss canton of Ticino. The 90-member council is elected by proportional representation in a single constituency every four years, and meets at the Ursoline Palace. Pelin Kandemir Bordoli (R) is the president of Grand Council of Ticino. She meets with her two assistants (center) the Union leaders, Paolo Locatelli (L) from OCST and Dario Cadenazzi (Second left). The Union leaders have brought a statement letter to the Ticino Parliament about the disastrous situation in the construction market. The wave of national protest in the construction industry began on October 15 in Ticino. 3000 masons from Ticino interrupted their work to meet in Bellinzona and demand that retirement be maintained at 60. In addition to retirement at 60, the fight against wage dumping and longer working hours are at the heart of the demands. Unia and OCST unions said in a joint statement that masons have had enough after a year of blocking negotiations and blackmail. The workers and their unions have therefore decided to start a national protest. If no agreements are found between workers and constructions companies, a strike might occur in the near future. 15.10.2018 © 2018 Didier Ruef
