Mozambique. Province of Maputo. Moamba is a small town (150 km from the caiptal). A patient lies on his bed in his room. He suffers from filariose which is a serious tropical disease due to a worm which did enter in the body. On the wall is a poster about HIV Aids which says: Think about life, avoid Aids (sida). The drawing shows a couple, man and woman, back to back seated on the ground. They are thinking about the disease. The poster is part of a campaign of awareness on the HIV virus. Another poster says: vaccination is prevention. A drawing tells also about malaria and its transmission through mosquitoes bites. Beacause of the war between the Government and the rebel of the Frelimo party, the roads are either mined or too dangerous to travel on. Moamba can only be reached by plane. The non governmental organisation (ngo) Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) of Spain has rehabilitated the hospital. © 1992 Didier Ruef
