014_Iraq_Baghdad_Old woman crying_Sadnees_2004.jpg
Iraq. Baghdad. Iraqi women league. Fadila Alewi cries when she talks about her husband killed in 1963, because he was a communist, by the Baath party (previous to the Saddam Hussein regime). She wears the hijab, a black veil which covers her hair. The word hijab (or hidjab) refers to both the veil covering the head and traditionally worn by muslim women (Islamic headscarf), but also the modest muslim styles of dress in general. 20.02.04 © 2004 Didier Ruef .
