Ghana. Greater Accra Region. Accra. People stand on Black Star Square, also known as Independence Square, which s a public square bordered by the Accra Sports Stadium and the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park. The square often hosts the annual independence celebrations as well as other national events, and is the site for all civic and military parades and other national gatherings. It was completed in 1961. Colourful tents with the red, green and yellow colors as used in the National flag. The flag of Ghana consists of the colours red, gold and green in horizontal stripes with a five pointed black star in the centre of the gold stripe. Red represents the blood of those who died in the country's struggle for independence. Gold represents the mineral wealth of the country.
