India. Uttar Pradesh state. Allahabad. Maha Kumbh Mela. A religious on the birth of Hanuman is floating on the river Ganges at Sangam. The pages are torn and plunged into the river as a blessing and a worship to the deities. Hanuman is a Hindu deity, who was an ardent devotee of Rama according to the Hindu legends. He is a central character in the Indian epic Ramayana and its various versions. Several texts also present him as an incarnation of Lord Shiva. The Kumbh Mela, believed to be the largest religious gathering is held every 12 years on the banks of the 'Sangam'- the confluence of the holy rivers Ganga, Yamuna and the mythical Saraswati. The Maha (great) Kumbh Mela, which comes after 12 Purna Kumbh Mela, or 144 years, is always held at Allahabad. Uttar Pradesh (abbreviated U.P.) is a state located in northern India. 9.02.13 © 2013 Didier Ruef
