Belarus. Province of Gomel. Bolchevik. Family Takhmanova, Olga the mother 45 years old, with her son Serguei 15 and daughter Svetlana 13 years, at home in their living room. The family suffers physical health problems due to the Chernobyl disaster. Both children already went twice to sanatoriums in western Europe. The village of Bolchevik was heavily affected by the fallout of the catastrophe which took place on April 1986 at 1.23 am in the Chernobyl atomic power station. The accident in the nuclear power plant has environmental effects which affect territories and health of the people. The village of Bolchevik is still contaminated by radioactive materials, like caesium 137. © 2006 Didier Ruef
