A young woman seated on a rock cooks on fire the ensete or false banana for a preparation of food dough and bread, called Kocho. The Dorze are a small ethnic group inhabiting the Gamo Gofa Zone who speak the Dorze language, an Omotic tongue. The Dorze are predominantly agriculturalists living in permanent villages. Ensete ventricosum, commonly known as the Ethiopian banana, Abyssinian banana, false banana, or ensete, is an herbaceous species of flowering plant in the genus Ensete of the banana family Musaceae. The Dorze numbered 40'000 reside in villages near the cities of Chencha and Arba Minch.
