Armenia. Syunik Province. Sisian. Vintage cafe. Ararat Gevorgyan was a member of the "Volunteers Union of Country Defenders" of Sisian region. He was injured on April 4th 2016 by the explosion of an Azerbaijani military drone IAI Harop during an attack in the village of Talish, located in the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic. He survived, but nine of his friends died in the kamikaze drone explosion. His body was heavily burned and injured by high-explosive shell fragmentation which entered his right arm and came out on his neck. The IAI Harop is a loitering munition developed by the MBT division of Israel Aerospace Industries. The unmanned combat aerial vehicle is also known as the Harop loitering munitions missile. It is an anti-radiation drone that can autonomously home in on radio emissions. Rather than holding a separate high-explosive warhead, the drone itself is the main munition. This SEAD-optimised loitering munition is designed to loiter the battlefield and attack targets by self-destructing into them. The drone can either operate fully autonomously, using its anti-radar homing system, or it can take a human-in-the-loop mode. If a target is not engaged, the drone will return and land itself back at base. Talish is a village in the Martakert Region of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic. It has been under Armenian control since the 1994 ceasefire. Sisian is a town and the centre of the urban community of Sisian, in Syunik Province at the south of Armenia. 3.10.2019 © 2019 Didier Ruef
