USA. New York City. Spanish Harlem. Alejandro, a senior citizen and an immigrant from Puerto Rico, is looking outside of his flat's window on the MTA daily rail service to Connecticut. The Puerto Rican man and his family lives below the poverty line and receives public assistance (AFDC, Home Relief, Supplemental Security Income and Medicaid). The family resides in units managed by the New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) which provides housing for low income residents. NYCHA administers rental apartments in facilities, popularly known as "projects". Spanish Harlem, also known as El Barrio and East Harlem, is a low income neighborhood in Harlem area.
