Switzerland. Geneva. Facing the Palais des Nations (United Nations Office), the public square in the centre of International Geneva provides a platform for all citizens of the world. A political demonstration asks for freedom to opinion prisoners in Algeria. An one-legged man walks with crutches and bends over to regulate the loudspeaker's volume. An Algerian flag blows in the wind. The national flag of Algeria consists of two equal vertical bars, green and white, charged in the center with a red star and crescent, a symbol of Islam as the nation's prominent faith. The flag was adopted on 3 July 1962. The United Nations Office at Geneva (UNOG) is the second-largest of the four major office sites of the United Nations (second to the United Nations Headquarters in New York City). It is located in the Palais des Nations building constructed for the League of Nations between 1929 and 1938 at Geneva, and expanded in the early 1950s and late 1960s. 6.09.2020 © 2020 Didier Ruef
