Switzerland. Geneva. Pedestrian patrol. Two police officers walk at daytime on the streets of the Paquis neighborhood, known for its Red-light district. Street prostitution. Most of the prostitutes work in the streets. Others wait inside seated and look through the windows for customers. Prostitution is often referred to as "the world's oldest profession". Both policemen are wearing a ballistic vest, bulletproof vest or bullet-resistant vest which is an item of personal armor that helps absorb the impact from knives, firearm-fired projectiles and shrapnel from explosions, and is worn on the torso. Soft vests are made from many layers of woven or laminated fibers and can be capable of protecting the wearer from small-caliber handgun and shotgun projectiles. Both policemen have also a two-way radio which is a radio that can both transmit and receive (a transceiver). A two-way radio (transceiver) allows the operator to have a conversation with other similar radios operating on the same radio frequency (channel). Two-way radios are available with hand-held portable configurations. Hand-held radios are often called walkie-talkies or handie-talkies. 14.05.12 © 2012 Didier Ruef
