Albania. Berat, View from the old fortified castle on the old city centre Gorica (center on the river's left bank), the modern town (L) and the Osum River down in the valley. Berat is known to Albanians as the city of "One above another Windows". The pine forests above the city, on the slopes of the towering Tomorr mountains, provide a backdrop of appropriate grandeur. Berat, historically known as Poulcheriopólis and Antipatreia, is the ninth most populous city of the Republic of Albania. The city is the capital of the surrounding Berat County. Berat, designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2008, comprise a unique style of architecture with influences from several civilizations that have managed to coexist for centuries throughout the history. 26.05.2018 © 2018 Didier Ruef
