Italy. Aosta valley. On the border with Switzerland. The Great St. Bernard Pass and the bronze statue of St. Bernard on a pedestal. A group of men from the " Voltigeurs du 3eme régiment suisse", all dressed with historic traditional soldiers outfits are firing muskets during a historical reenactment based on the crossing of the Great St. Bernard Pass on May 13, 1800 by Napoleon Bonaparte and his army on their way to attack the Austrian army in Italy. A musket is a muzzle-loaded, smoothbore long gun, fired from the shoulder. Muskets were designed for use by infantry. A soldier armed with a musket had the designation musketman or musketeer. Great St. Bernard Pass (French: Col du Grand St-Bernard, Italian: Colle del Gran San Bernardo, German: Grosser Sankt Bernhard; 2,469 m (8,100 ft)) is the third highest road pass in Switzerland. Great St. Bernard is one of the most ancient pass through the Western Alps. 12.08.2017 © 2017 Didier Ruef
