Kenya. Rift Valley province. Kasambara (20 km from Nakuru). A young black girl from the Kikuyu tribe seats on the ground with her sisters, mother and relatives. She waits for a food distribution, organised by the swiss non-governmental organization (NGO) running the Rhein-Valley hospital. The women and children are Internally displaced persons (IDPs), forced to flee their homes because of the inter-ethnic strife, but who, unlike refugees, remain within their country's borders. The Kikuyu are Kenya's most populous ethnic group. © 2008 Didier Ruef
