Switzerland. Canton Ticino. Lugano. Via Nassa. Church San Carlo Borromeo (Chiesa di San Carlo Borromeo). A woman is seated on a wooden bench and checks the picture she took with her iPad tablet. On the wall, an oil painting of Carlo Borromeo by Emmanuele Gregolin ( 2008). Charles Borromeo (Italian: Carlo Borromeo, 2 October 1538 – 3 November 1584) was the Archbishop of Milan from 1564 to 1584 and a cardinal of the Catholic Church. He was a leading figure of the Counter-Reformation combat against the Protestant Reformation. In that role he was responsible for significant reforms in the Catholic Church, including the founding of seminaries for the education of priests. He is honored as a saint by the Catholic Church, with a feast day on November 4. <br />
